# The Racebook

The pub screen in **The Sticky Hoof** is not decoration. It carries the **real race**, the same one running at [the track](/gluebook/how-a-race-works), and the pub takes **bets in gloo** on it.

## How a bet works

Walk up to the racebook, pick your horse, put down your gloo. The rules of the book:

- A bet is **1 to 500 gloo**, and you can place up to **5 bets** on one race.
- Everyone's stakes go into **one pool**. When the race settles, the souls who backed the winner **split the whole pool**, each in proportion to what they put down.
- The house keeps nothing. **5% of the pool is burned**, gone from the world, the rest goes to the winners.
- The book **closes 15 minutes before the bell**, so nobody bets on a race that is already decided.

## The honest rules

- The result is the same on chain result the track pays on. Nobody in the world can bend it.
- If a race is **voided**, or nobody picked the winner, every bet comes back **in full**.
- You do not have to be online for settlement. Win while you sleep and the gloo is in your pocket when you wake.

## Why it matters

This is the first place the two halves of $GLUE touch: the track runs on chain, and the world bets on it in gloo. One more reason the pub is never empty.
